Mothers Day

Since my mom lives about 3 hours away from me, I couldn't be with her today for Mothers Day. I sent her some nice gifts and we chatted on the phone for a bit. I don't have any children of my own but my dog, Cooper, counts in my mind.

So I stayed in today and made some yummy cupcakes. I made my banana cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Purple frosting and matching sprinkles. They are delicious!

And since it is Mothers Days, I found this cute book a few weeks ago at work and felt it was a good time to share. My Mom, Style Icon has adorable photos of moms from years past and their fashionable (or not so fashionable!) outfits. This would have made a great Mothers Day gift!

Burlesque Festival!

This past weekend, I took Flamingo Cupcake Studios to the Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival. I was a vendor at the Burlesque Bizarre among some pretty amazing ladies.

There were burlesque performances on Friday and Saturday night at the lovely opera house. Watching the ladies perform was so inspiring. They had some great acts, lots of funny moments and even an on stage proposal!

I sold lots of stuff and met some awesome new people. I'm missing Jim Thorpe already and I can't wait til next year!

I probably won't get a chance to write on here as much right now being that the Burlesque Festival is coming up and I have so much last minute stuff to do! I am super excited and nervous especially about the weather...we're almost in April and we are still seeing a threat of snow??!!! I want some Spring weather already!

Its always nice to hear how customers of mine find out about Flamingo Cupcake. I mean, I don't have the money to do advertising so word of mouth is really all I've got. A recent customer of mine said, 'Oh btw, I found out about you from Tavi on Style Rookie.' Honestly, I had no idea what she was talking about so of course I googled it and was pleasantly surprised. It turns out Tavi is one of my customers, too. She's a cute little thing who blogs about fashion, music, and one of my personal favs, Courtney Love. Appetite for Reduction

Lately I have been feeling a need for change. I would like to lose some extra pounds that I have tacked on over the years (maybe like 10-15) and just live a more healthful lifestyle in general. Its really not easy. Especially when you're like me who looooves cupcakes and sweets and all that is bad for you.

I am a huge fan of Bethenny Frankel...ya know, one of the Real Housewives from New York. I recently finished her book 'Naturally Thin' and couldn't get enough of her advice for looking at your eating habits in a whole different light. I loved it so much that I read her other book, 'Skinny Dish', which has the recipes in it.

I'm super psyched because I just bought Isa Moskowitz's newest book, 'Appetite for Reduction'. Although I am not vegan, I am a big fan of her and her many cookbooks. This one intrigued me because all the recipes are between 200 and 400 calories. At first glance I found many recipes that looked delicious and things that I would actually make. Can't wait to get cooking!

The Wonder Woman Collection for MAC

The new Wonder Woman collection from MAC is pretty much a dream come true. I'm kind of surprised no one has thought of it sooner. Why wouldn't I want all my makeup to have a Wonder Woman logo on it?!

I stopped by the MAC counter yesterday and was in awe of the cute setup surrounding this collection...a cute Wonder Woman makeup chair, a backdrop with classic Wonder Woman comics, and of course the makeup itself. I really loved the eyeshadow palette with the pinks and purples but settled for my standby Russian Red lipstick in a fancy new Wonder Woman tube. I just couldn't help myself.

The Melting Pot

I LOVE the Melting Pot! Even if I feel stuffed and gross afterward, I still love eating there. Mark took me there for Valentines Day and it was the perfect opportunity to wear my gift from him, my Heartlette Crown from Giant Dwarf. Something tells me a lot of ladies were wearing it this Valentines Day...its just too perfect and I got compliments on it all day long.

He really is the best husband and I am so lucky to have him!

Dinner Party Success!

Since my friends and I have no interest in the Super Bowl, I decided to throw a small birthday dinner party for my friend Adam. I don't get to do stuff that this often so I wanted to go all out and make an Italian inspired dinner. I went with a vegetable lasagna (first time making lasagna), garlic bread, salad, and of course some cupcakes for dessert. It all turned out really well and I was so proud of myself!

I am on the vendor list for the Burlesque Bazaar at the Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival!

This is such a huge deal for me and I am so excited and nervous all at the same time. Being at this festival means so many things to me. I get to see friends and family, visit a place I haven't been to in years, and of course gain more exposure for my handmade things. I found these adorable little flowers with buttons in the center done in my favorite colors. They almost look like they are stitched together. I knew I needed to make something with them and I came up with this cute necklace idea layering felt of matching colors. I love it so much and it really resembles my bouquet I made for my wedding day.

I am soooo excited for the Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival! Luckily it takes place very close to where I grew up in Pennsylvania and will be a good excuse to get up there and see the family.

I've only been to one other burlesque show and really enjoyed it. I have so much admiration for those ladies that can get up there on stage.

Not only am I excited to see the performers but there is also an area for vendors to sell their goods. I'm going to attempt to bring Flamingo Cupcake Studios to the festival and sell my jewelry and hair accessories. Fingers crossed!

I recently came across the wonderful site called Colette Patterns which is dedicated to sewing patterns for making reproduction vintage pieces. I may never have the time to whip up one of the gorgeous dresses they have to offer but I did come across a tutorial for a cute faux fur collar.

I've been really into fur collar recently and I know this is something I could pull off. I think it would look great for Christmas dinner or with a cocktail dress for New Years!

Cameo Necklaces

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!!!

The latest issue of Bust magazine featured their Holiday Gift Guide. I always find fun new things in it that I have never seen before. One of them happened to be this cute little ice cream maker from Hamilton Beach. I have never made my own ice cream before but have been very interested in doing so.

On a trip to Target today, I found the blue one for only $19.99! Needless to say, I bought it and can't wait to try it out. I will keep you posted on how it is!

Say hello to the Silhouette SD

The Silhouette SD is an electronic cutting tool that connects to your computer allowing you to cut fonts and images in cardstock, vinyl, heat transfer material, etc. It can do things such as scrapbook pages, cards, custom apparel, vinyl decor, etched glass, sketched designs, temporary tattoos, paper crafts, and much more.

Only problem is, for $299, I just don't think I would use it enough to justify such a large purchase... Go here to see what Elsie has done with hers!

Pumpkin Cupcakes

I was looking for something different to make for Thanksgiving dessert and I stumbled on this recipe from marthastewart.com for pumpkin cupcakes. They were really easy and I topped them off with my favorite cream cheese frosting recipe. They are so yummy!

You will need:

cups all-purpose flour
teaspoon baking soda
teaspoon baking powder
teaspoon coarse salt
teaspoon ground cinnamon
teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
cup packed light-brown sugar
cup granulated sugar
cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
large eggs, lightly beaten
can (15 ounces) pumpkin puree

 Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cupcake pans with paper liners;  set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking  powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice; set aside.  
 In a large bowl, whisk together, brown sugar, granulated sugar,  butter, and eggs. Add dry ingredients, and whisk until smooth. Whisk in  pumpkin puree. 
 Divide batter evenly among liners, filling each about halfway.  Bake until tops spring back when touched, and a cake tester inserted in  the center comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes, rotating pans once if  needed. Transfer to a wire rack; let cool completely.

So pretty much all day I've been working on my bottle cap accessories. I found really cute clippings from my 10 years worth collection of Bust magazines and turned them into something wearable! I put the clippings in bottle caps and sealed them with resin. I put them on hair pins and felt brooches. I plan to make more in the future. I really like how they turned out! Black Bean Tortilla Pie

Since I talk about it all the time, I thought I would give out the recipe to my favorite dish...the black bean tortilla pie. It comes straight out of the Great Food Fast cookbook put out by Martha Stewart Living. Its a hit at parties and makes great leftovers!

4 10 inch flour tortillas

1 tablespoon canola oil

1 large onion, diced

2 minced garlic cloves

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

salt and pepper to taste

2 cans black beans, rinsed and drained

1 1/2 cup water

1 package frozen corn

4 scallions thinly sliced, plus more for garnish

2 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Use a springform pan or a round cake pan.

2. Heat oil in pan over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and cumin. Season with salt and pepper. Cook, stir occasionally, until onion is soft.

3. Add the beans and water, bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until liquid is almost evaporated. Stir in corn and scallions and remove from heat.

4. Fit a tortilla in the bottom of your pan. Layer with 1/4 of the bean mixture and 1/2 cup cheese. Repeat 3 times but use 1 cup cheese on the top layer. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Sprinkle with scallions and slice into wedges.

ENJOY!!!

I love weddings! What a great excuse to get dressed up and celebrate! This Saturday we went up to PA to celebrate our friends Diane and Chad's marriage. What a beautiful wedding it was and so was the bride, of course. Loving that fur!

I miss my friends back home dearly so I always take full advantage of my time with them. And an open bar never hurt either.

What I'm loving right now

Heres a girly list of things I'm in love with at the moment. This is what a trip to the mall will do to me.

I'm always in love with Betsey Johnson however I was ready to shell out the money today to buy some of her new pieces of jewelry. I thought the owl brooch would be adorable on my winter coat.

Every time I go into Sephora, I'm drooling over all the makeup I can't afford. I'm in love with Kat Von D's new Tattoo Chronicles Palette complete with eyeshadow, eyelashes, and perfume!

And speaking of perfume, I never met a Philosophy fragrance I didn't like. One whiff of Eternal Grace, and I was in love. It's still lingering on my jacket. Sooo good!

Sick Day

I am the biggest baby when I'm sick. Right now I have a sinus infection and I hate it. I took a sick day, put on my Kiss shirt, cuddled with my dog, Cooper, and made myself some comfort food. My favorite is my black bean tortilla pie.

Being stuck at home did give me the chance to photograph some of my most recent vintage finds. Some I will keep of course, and some will end up in the shop.

Happy Day of the Dead!

Today was the release date of Amy Sedaris' new book, Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People.

It is laugh out loud funny and actually has some worth while craft ideas. Staying with the Day of the Dead theme, Amy has a simple recipe for Mexican Sugar Skulls.

You will need:

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon meringue powder

1 teaspoon water

plastic skull molds (each one takes 1/2 cup sugar)

sequins, colored frosting

Mix together sugar, meringue powder, and water with your hands until it feels like damp sand. Pack into molds, carefully turn out onto a flat surface and let harden 24 hours before decorating. Enjoy!

Best Friday Ever!

Happy Halloween!

Now that thats out of the way, I need to talk about what happened on Friday. I pretty much spent the afternoon with Kat Von D. She did a book signing at my store which drew in about 400 people. She really is the sweetest person and really loves all her fans. My job was to snap the photo for people as they were getting their book signed. Everyone was so grateful and excited to meet her. She was showered with gifts and handwritten letters. She hugged just about everyone, and when she hugs, she gives a good squeeze, like you're old friends. I was even lucky enough to sit in on her interview before the signing started. She not only signed my books, but my makeup (her line at Sephora)as well. I was pretty much in awe of her all day. BEST DAY OF WORK EVER!

Then within a few hours, it was Halloween Party time! I went as Tippi from the Birds and Mark was Doc Brown from Back to the Future.

There was also Rosie the Riveter, a zombie Prom Queen, a troll doll, and the many faces of Lady Gaga. What a fun night!

Tattoo Chronicles

I cannot contain myself for the events taking place on Friday. Kat Von D will be at my Barnes & Noble signing copies of her new book "The Tattoo Chronicles". This being her second book, its more like a diary, a day in the life of a famous tattoo artist. I, of course, will be working the event and am excited and nervous all at the same time. I'm really just hoping I won't make a fool of myself.

Halloween Cupcakes

I was looking for a something new in terms of cupcakes to try out for Halloween and while surfing the web I found this great idea for 'Vampire Cupcakes'. The centers have cherry pie filling so that when you bite into them its supposed to look like blood plus its super tasty. It also said to use vanilla frosting to make fang marks out of red food coloring and toothpicks.

I did a trial run a few days ago and skipped the fang marks because I was craving lots of chocolate. The cherry filling was delicious with the chocolate! I think everyone at work thought so too since they didn't last very long!

Sorry  for the lack of posting. I have been pretty sick so besides being at  work, most of my time has been spent in bed trying to get better. One  thing that did get me pretty excited was finding out about this new  exhibit at the Visionary Art Museum, right here in Baltimore. Its called  "What Makes Us Smile" and is described as a "playful celebration of  human joy". It is co-curated by Matt Groening, creator of the Simpsons,  and Gary Panter, known for his whimsy behind Pee-Wee's Playhouse. The  exhibit will feature costumes, cartoons, and other fun surprises created  by 90 artists and comedians. 

Also, the museum will have this self portrait done by John Waters called John Jr. I can't wait to go once I get better!

A fun weekend update!

I went home to PA this weekend for my friend Diane's bachelorette party. A few hours were spent at a Fall Festival in Bethlehem and then it was back to her house. It was fun to get to hang out with old friends and meet some new ones while celebrating. The most exciting part was running into the lovely Jaime K, who writes the Save the Kales! blog. You may think that there is a slight resemblance between her and I...all of our friends did anyway.

Look what I got in the mail today!

This adorable print of a 'Hampden Hon' was purchased from Small Talk Studio on Etsy. They are based right here in Baltimore and I was lucky to enough to see their work at Crafty Bastards in Washington DC this past weekend. I fell in love with this print and had to have it in a larger, more frame-able size. I'm also enjoying this print:

Boot Weather

One thing I love about Fall is that all the stores start putting out their selection of boots. I'm super picky about buying them and I usually am not satisfied with what I see out there so I start surfing the web for the perfect boot. Now I already own quite a few pairs; a few pairs of cowboy boots, my black lace up boots, and a pair of tall brown ones (which you can see in the picture on the right). My goal is to now find the perfect brown lace up. Here are some I am enjoying right now:

Crafty Bastards!

Wow, today was amazing! Crafty Bastards far exceeded my expectations. It was quite possibly the largest craft show I've been to and the most fun. Mark and I brought our neighbor Robert and his daughter Emma. We had such a great time looking at all the awesome handmade stuff and its so nice to see all the familiar faces from past shows. Giant Dwarf is always a favorite of mine, so I bought a cute headdband and a "What Would Amy Sedaris Do?" shirt.

Of course we had to have some cupcakes and then some of us got our faces painted.

However, the best part by far was meeting Jay, the winner of Project Runway Season 1 (one of my favorite seasons and contestants!) He was so sweet and friendly and complimented me on my outfit and said how beautiful I was. I introduced him to my husband Mark and he said if he had a wife, he would want her to look like me. It was an awesome experience!

So excited for Crafty Bastards on Saturday! This will probably be the last craft show of the year that I attend and I cannot contain myself because there will be 150 vendors there including some of my all time favorites. Being that the weather is nice, Mark and I will make the 45 minute drive out to Washington DC and enjoy good crafts, good cupcakes, and hopefully good purchases. I will most likely have some photos to share!

I don't usually go my local thrift store on a Wednesday being that Mondays and Thursdays are the discount days. But something about today just seemed right. I had a good day at work, it was rainy and I figured the thrift store would be dead (which means less shopping carts to bump into and saying excuse me every 2 minutes gets kind of annoying). So I went, and I'm so glad I did. I found some of my favorite things to date while shopping there today.

I'm not entirely sure that I will keep everything. Not all of it really fits me. Its just nice to have them all for now. They made my day!

Getting ready for Halloween!

I am super excited for Halloween! I don't do many holiday decorations inside my place but I always try to keep my front door festive with a homemade wreath. I kept my Halloween wreath looking dark and creepy with some black birds and sparkly black roses.

And speaking of Halloween and black birds, I've decided that my costume this year will be Tippi Hedren in The Birds. I've already started gathering supplies and searching etsy and ebay for the perfect green suit dress!

Not gonna lie, since I got a promotion at work I've been really busy and so tired when I get home that I'm surprised I have any time for fun! I'm trying my best to juggle everything: craft making, etsy, hanging with my hubby and friends, and trying to keep up with housework (least favorite thing ever). Of course I did find time to bake a cake. Its a boxed Halloween Funfetti cake with homemade buttercream frosting. I always color my frosting to give it some pizazz. It is delicious!

And I know this is totally random but yesterday I realized that my outfit perfectly matched the colors in my tattoo. :)

Tucker for Target

I stopped into Target yesterday to pick up a few things and noticed this super cute collection called Tucker for Target. Apparently yesterday was the first day it went on sale, so I got a good look at what was available. I especially liked these 2 little babydoll dresses. They remind me of the 1990's grungey dresses that I find at the thrift store (but these are more expensive of course). I ended up buying this adorable silky bow top covered in pumpkin colored polkadots. I happened to have a vintage matching skirt so I paired them up today for a nice fall outfit. I'm enjoying it.

Lazy Day Jewelry Making

I love having Sundays off and sometimes its even better when its raining because that way I know I won't really leave the house. Not leaving the house means more craft making. I bought more Fancy Felt and will be working on more felt flower hair clips but today I finished a bunch of earrings and necklaces. I was never much of a jewelry maker but my co-worker Jana really inspired me with her pretty handmade earrings. I wanted to make a bunch with more of my aesthetic which pretty much means sweet treats, animals, and other random objects. I will be adding them to my shop in the near future!

Prettiest cupcakes to date!

I make lots of cupcakes but I think these are the prettiest ones I've made so far. The frosting got the best shade of aqua and I think I mastered 'the swirl' technique. I've been using my frosting bags and the frosting has to be right out of the refrigerator (nice and cold!) The cupcakes themselves are banana with cream cheese frosting and little butterfly sprinkles. They will be coming to work with me on Wednesday for a 'Potluck Going Away Party' we are throwing for one my managers. I tested one and they are delicious!

I'm the sort of person that 'collects' lots of things. Pretty much anything from vintage clothing to kitschy housewares. One collection I really love are my salt and pepper shakers. I decided that I liked salt and pepper shakers when I found an EC Star skirt in high school that had them all over it. I haven't worn that skirt in awhile but I still collect salt and pepper shakers! I made cherry pie today! I was going to make it all from scratch but realized that would take too long (since I wanted to make 2) and that cherries are kind of expensive when you need something like 4 pounds of them. So I settled for premade dough and canned cherry filling. It satisfied my craving for pie so I would say it worked out just fine. One pie is for me and one pie is going to work!

On a side note, my liking for cherry pie didn't really come until I got my Twin Peaks DVDs and would watch the series while eating pie. If you haven't seen it, Agent Cooper really enjoys a good piece of pie. And on another side note, our dog Cooper is named after him! Obviously, this is pretty much my favorite show.

Dream Skirt

I found this perfect 1940's vintage skirt at my favorite thrift store this week and had to wear it to work today. This is probably one of my new favorite outfits and it will be great for fall. Speaking of things for fall, we finally got the Martha Stewart Halloween magazine in at work. I love to see the craft ideas inside but whats most exciting is the front cover. This year the cover features Martha dressed as a 'Spellbinding Sorceress'. Her hair looks amazing! And I must say, the stars on her face are a bit 'Kat Von D'.

True Blood

In my opinion, True Blood is one of the better scripted television shows we have left. I mean, I love reality shows, but without them whats really left? Mad Men and most of the shows on the movie channels like HBO, Showtime, etc. Being a longtime fan of vampires and anything pretty much filled with blood and gore, I really enjoy watching True Blood.

It seems that a lot of customers at the bookstore are not happy with the recent Rolling Stone cover (or our placement of said magazine) featuring the True Blood stars nude and splattered in blood. I realize I'm not a mother of small children but if I were I think I would have better things to worry about than trying to censor my local bookstore. I don't know, maybe I'm just bias but the elderly woman at the store said it best while looking at the cover the other day, "That Eric sure is a hunk!". Take a look for yourself.

I'm extremely tired of the summer heat and I want nothing more than sweater weather to come. These cupcakes I made are in honor of my wanting Fall to come!

While shopping at AC Moore today I happened to find these cute window decals. They need to just make one that says 'I'm a huge dork'. These will be going on the car in the near future. I also wanted to buy all the Halloween decorations but settled for a fun sign to hang on my front door.

And check out my new sneakers...$9.99 from Urban Outfitters! I'm not all about planning outfits around my shoes, but I think these are well worth it. Wore them to see Scott Pilgrim tonight. What a great movie!

DC Cupcakes!

So, I like cupcakes. Actually, I love cupcakes. My friend and I took a trip to Georgetown, Washington DC today and I had cupcakes on the brain. I wanted to do some shopping and walking around, but most of all I wanted to visit Georgetown Cupcake, the shop featured on the TLC show 'DC Cupcakes'. If you haven't seen it, it revolves around sisters Sophie and Katherine and their cupcake shop. After watching the show for awhile, I needed to try a cupcake for myself. We waited in a half hour line but it was well worth it for my delicious red velvet cupcake. Plus I got to meet Sophie and Katherine! They are so sweet!

Mustache Lovin'

This past weekend, my friend and I threw ourselves a party in honor of our August birthdays. We got dressed up, made lots of yummy mexican food, and had a pinata full of goodies. Oh, and fake mustaches! I made us silly felt mustaches which were a hit with our guests and made picture taking that much more fun!

And I must say, the main inspiration behind all this mustache lovin' is from Fuzzy Ink.

As I mentioned in the last post, I have this huge frame that I couldn't find anything to put it. My solution was a piece of vintage fabric. I recently stumbled on these adorable hand drawn prints on etsy from Spread the Love. Better yet, it is based out of Kutztown, PA so it has that PA Dutch flare. I'm thinking of getting one for my frame after all...

This one being my first choice, because that is the most catchiest song ever and the colors are perfect.

I'm also enjoying these. I love monogrammed things! I have quite a few 'C's in our living room. Decisions, Decisions...

Wall Art

We got this awesome black frame as a wedding present over a year ago and I finally decided to hang it up in our living room. Being that I don't have a picture or photo big enough to look appropriate in the frame, I found this piece of vintage fabric I had been holding onto and decided to put it on display. I'm happy with the look and the colors match our space very well.

I also purchased another vintage dress from Jenny at Frecklewonder. I had to take up the hem as usual (I'm a shorty). It's a cute little summer dress with a bright floral print that I couldn't pass up. It received many compliments today!

My friend took me out yesterday for an all day birthday extravaganza (and I mean all day, I was gone for 12 hours!) It started with brunch, of course a birthday cupcake, and a visit to an antique mall. After than we went shopping in Fells Point where I found the Tom Green Show on DVD and made an appointment for my new tattoo! Best gifts to self ever! I also received other awesome gifts like a new Betsey Johnson watch, and the Daria DVDS from my hubby. I managed to get myself drunk on way too many margaritas and woke up with the worst hangover. It was such a fun day that on top of all that, we even squeezed in a thrift store stop and I found some cute dresses. After all that excitement, I'm kind of looking forward to a more relaxing day. Maybe dinner and a movie? Birthdays can be so tiring...

P.S- You know you're in Baltimore when shop windows have framed photos of John Waters in them. LOVE IT!

We took a short family trip to the Poconos this weekend. Not too much to say about that except I got to try out my awesome vintage bathing suit in a fabulous hot tub. Other than that, its nice to be home. My birthday is Tuesday and I'll be celebrating for the next two days then its back to work on Wednesday. I've been busy all evening making more felt accessories and adding more things to the shop. Check it out!

I'm visiting my parents for the weekend in Pennsylvania. I really love it here (well the Lehigh Valley, anyway) and by the looks of the awesome things I found today, I think it may love me back...

Shopping at the flea markets are on of my favorite things to do. I managed to find some great vintage dresses and 2 pairs of super cute salt and pepper shakers for my collection. The set on the left are actually umbrellas hanging on a rack, they come off to shake your salt and pepper. I kind of had to have them. The hex signs are just a PA thing in general plus I loved the colors and the birds.

I also need to mention that I made a last minute stop to Vegan Treats to pick up something sweet. I really had cupcakes in mind but they didn't have any out so I settled for this cheerful purple cake. I can't wait to dig in! And no, I'm not vegan, but I do make a mean batch of vegan cookies and vegan baked goods are just delicious!!!

Artscape 2010!

It was so hot and crowded but we had a blast looking at all the awesome handmade stuff and enjoying frozen beverages. To top it off we had dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Bonefish Grill. What a fun day!

Every summer in the sweltering heat, Baltimore has its free art festival, Artscape. I missed it last year so I'm hoping we won't get rained out and I will get to go this year. There are artists, fashion designers, crafters, live performances, and much more. My favorite parts are the DIY section, where all the local crafters sell their stuff, and the art cars. Look at how much fun we had there 2 years ago!

I'm only crafty when it rains

Well, thats not entirely true. Its just easier to get into a project when the weather is yucky and you're spending the afternoon indoors. My latest project is felt bow tie pins. I've been really into bows lately and I love wearing them on dresses and cardigans so I thought why not make a whole bunch and possibly put them in my shop for others to enjoy! I'm planning on making more in lots of different colors. Let me know what you think!

A Burlesque Performer....and shes Vegan!

I met Danielle in the sixth grade. We continued school together and ended up in the same graduating class (Northampton 02', yippee...). We later found each other on Facebook and I started reading her blog. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that she was becoming a burlesque performer in Brooklyn, NY and doing it all while following her vegan lifestyle. Not only was I intrigued because I know her, but because she is doing something that I would never have the guts to do. Its fun reading about her new experiences and reading her interviews with burlesque 'veterans'. When performing, she goes by the clever name 'Anja Keister'. Hats off to you, Anja! Or should I say 'clothes off'?

Make a cake like Duff!

I am a HUGE fan of Duff Goldman and Charm City Cakes. For those of you who don't know, Duff owns the most awesome custom cake shop called Charm City Cakes right here in Baltimore. They also have their own show on Food Network called Ace of Cakes. Week after week we get to see the truly amazing cake creations that the talented staff make for happy customers. Last year I was lucky enough to meet some of them at a book signing at Barnes & Noble.

This past week, I found out that Duff came out with his own line of baking supplies...and I'm not talking about just pans and spatulas, but actual cake mixes, fondant, and really awesome things called 'cake tattoos'. Being someone who loves to bake, this is a dream come true. Michaels (the craft store) is carrying these products or you can get them from Duff.com. It seems like most of the stuff I wanted to try is sold out already but once I get my hands them I will let you know! Happy baking!

This amazing vintage bathing suit I found at my favorite thrift store this week. It has a built in pointy bra and it is perfection!

I've been wanting a sweet little bistro set for my porch and finally found the perfect set at Target. I waited til it went on sale and ended up getting it 50% off. It makes me want to sit outside every chance I get.

 This awesome corduroy bow from Giant Dwarf. It's really a clip  for your hair but I stuck a pin back on it to wear on my vintage  dresses.

And last but not least, my brand new Honda Civic! I love having a car with air conditioning again and being able to listen to my ipod while driving!
