Upcycled Tshirt Necklace

Since my work schedule leaves me time to craft late at night, I came up with something to make that didn't require sewing or really that much thought. I've been using soft jersey tshirts to make these cute and comfortable to wear necklace/scarf type accessories with detachable flower pins. I plan to make many and of all different colors if time permits. I you like what you see, you can purchase one in my Etsy shop. In fact, I encourage you to do so...it will give me more incentive to make more!

Nobody's Daughter

Yesterday marked the first release from 'Hole' in 12 years. I never stopped liking them, nor stopped being interested in Courtney Love. I think once you are into something so much, even if you are 15, it doesn't just go away. So I can't help but be excited about this or the fact that I get to see them in a couple months.

I will say, 'Live Through This' is one of my all time favorite albums from start to finish. That being said, Nobody's Daughter is nothing like that album and it is certainly nothing like 'Pretty on the Inside', but I get the feeling that she doesn't want to be that anymore. I think its kind of like 'Celebrity Skin' but more mature with better lyrics. I listened to it several times all the way through and I can say that I really like the first half while the second half is kind of lacking for me. Stand out favorites for me are the title track, 'Skinny Little Bitch', 'Pacific Coast Highway', and 'Samantha'. Courtney's voice sounds great and even a bit reminiscent of Marianne Faithful at times.

Courtney and 'Hole' were on Letterman last night. I thought she looked amazing (way better than I have seen in recent photos). She claims to be clean and sober and I think I believe it. She looks healthy and happy and seems semi-normal. Her little tattoos are super cute, too. If you missed it, here  is  a portion of the interview and don't forget, they will be on Jimmy Kimmel April 29th!

Dainty June

Dainty June is the indie clothing brand designed by Jennifer Johnson of E.C Star (I knew the style looked really familiar to me!) and the Daking Sisters. I pretty much want all the looks from their Summer 2010 collection. I'm really into rompers right now and bought a couple for this summer. Can't wait to start wearing them! In the meantime, I will be drooling over the Dainty June website.

Role Models

'Role Models' is the latest book by John Waters and will be released May 25th. Here is a short description of the book that I pulled from Amazon:

"Here, from the incomparable John Waters, is a paean to the power of subversive inspiration that will delight, amuse, enrich—and happily horrify readers everywhere.
Role Models is, in fact, a self-portrait told through intimate profiles of favorite personalities—some famous, some unknown, some criminal, some surprisingly middle-of-the-road. From Esther Martin, owner of the scariest bar in Baltimore, to the playwright Tennessee Williams; from the atheist leader Madalyn Murray O’Hair to the insane martyr Saint Catherine of Siena; from the English novelist Denton Welch to the timelessly appealing singer Johnny Mathis—these are the extreme figures who helped the author form his own brand of neurotic happiness.
Role Models is a personal invitation into one of the most unique, perverse, and hilarious artistic minds of our time."

And for all of us obsessed, John Waters will doing a book tour/lecture series to promote the book. He will be at Atomic Books on June 5  at 7pm and Barnes & Nobles at Johns Hopkins on September 16 at 7pm. For more info about the tour and everything else John Waters, please visit Dreamland.

Annapolis...and cupcakes!

I had nothing planned for today but a good friend called me and needed to get out of the house so I agreed. We ended up in our states beautiful capitol, Annapolis. The streets are lined with pretty shop windows, restaurants of varieties of cuisines, and lots of happy people with their doggies! I must say, there were lots of dogs down there today, which I loved seeing. You can walk all the way down to the end of the main street, which of course is where the bay is. I'm sure that when the weather is nice, sitting by the bay is a great spot to relax. But for today, we pretty much did some window shopping and had some good food. We ate dinner at a delicious thai/sushi restaurant (which I unfortunately can't remember the name of) and enjoyed some pineapple fried rice with shrimp. But I must say, my favorite part of the trip was our stop at Nostalgia Cupcake where I devoured the tastiest red velvet cupcake I think I have ever had. So all in all, if I got anything out of today, its that Annapolis= yummy cupcakes!

And being that I have a cupcake obsession (which you may be able to take note of in that photo), I had to bring a cupcake home for later (which I just ate). This yummy cupcake was filled with chocolate and topped with blue frosting and sprinkles!!!

Project Runway Finale

In honor of Seth Aaron's win on Project Runway, I wanted to post my favorites from his winning collection.

I pretty much was drawn to Seth Aaron's aesthetic from the very beginning. I also really liked Mila (I know she was not a favorite for most). Not only is Seth Aaron adorable himself, but he seems like a great guy with an awesome, supportive family. I'm always interested to hear what the inspiration was for the designers final collections and I totally got the 1940s/military theme he was going for. Congrats on your win, Seth Aaron! You will never be as 'special' as Christian Siriano is to me, but I look forward to seeing great things from you in the future!

I almost forgot!

I can't believe I let this pass me by, but today was John Waters birthday! He is 64 years young. Love you!

Spring means....Craft Shows!

Its true...when the weather gets nice, I'm thinking one thing: Its Craft Show season! I'm trying to plan a trip to New York for my 1 year wedding anniversary and lucky enough for me, The Renegade Craft Fair happens to be going on in Brooklyn on the same weekend. And the fabulous Lotta Jansdotter will be there doing a workshop!

The Renegade Craft Fair features over 300 indie craft vendors, free workshops, entertainment, and food. They travel to several other cities as well so be sure to check out renegadecraft.com for more details. It is free to attend and is an outdoor event so fingers crossed for nice weather!

I'm extremely excited because the last big indie craft show I went to in New York was the Bust Holiday Craftacular a few years back. I got to meet the lovely and talented Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching. She was so sweet!

If you don't know much about the indie crafter scene, I highly recommend the book, Handmade Nation. It features profiles of popular crafters around the country and gives you a look at the creations which have made them so successful. It also has a companion DVD documentary, which I have yet to see but both can be purchased through Amazon.com.

And if you already love the indie crafter scene you can check out indiecraftshows.com for an up to date calendar on upcoming shows in you area. There are quite a few coming up in the Baltimore area so I know what I'll be doing for the new few months!

Wish List

Heres a bunch of things I really want right now...
I haven't bought a new bathing suit since the seventh grade so it might be time for a new. I also would like a new fancy dress for an upcoming wedding. And I'm really digging the shorts over black leggings look...once I find a pair that fit properly, I will be trying this.

'I see your true colors...'

In honor of Martha Stewart's color themed show today, I decided to make a post about color. Ever wonder how design professionals choose the fabulous colors for their lines? PANTONE is the leading color specialist. They have a unique color matching system that pretty much helps out the fashion, art, and design industries and makes it possible for us customers to have such lovely and on trend items. Can we say dream job???

To see the entire Fall 2010 Fashion Color Report and more information about Pantone, please visit Panton.com.

Speaking of color, I usually wear lots of it. Although today I decided to go with a very Mila from Project Runway inspired look. Although I am a Seth Aaron fan, I do enjoy her black and white striped aesthetic and I think she is super cute.

Weekend Fun!

Last night I enjoyed bowling, mexican food, good company, and a yummy mango margarita. I am terrible at bowling but I got to use my thrift store find bowling ball and matching shoes who once belonged to a 'Ruth'. And dinner might have been a bit better if our waitress didn't spill water all over our table, not once but twice. Still a really great night though.

And Happy Birthday to Mary, who is turning 20 tomorrow!

A Rough Start...

I had a rough start today...woke up with the worst cramps and pretty much wanted to stay in bed all day. I didn't expect to really do much today or get anything accomplished but when I got up this was waiting for me...

Our lovely neighbors brought us brunch! Banana pancakes, omelet, potatoes, fruit, juice, coffee, and a cinnamon roll! It was a delicious surprise.

I did decide to go out after all. I stopped at the thrift store again and got some more dresses for the shop...one that I really adore but pretty much have no use for. It will end up in the shop shortly.

I also made Funfetti cookies! I love Funfetti cake and cupcakes so I figured the cookies would be just as good and they are so yummy!

Cannot wait until tomorrow! I get to go bowling and out to dinner with my awesome friends. My good friend is having a birthday and its time to celebrate!

Thrifty Finds

I recently went to Fells Point in Baltimore and stopped in Killer Trash. Its a hole in the wall vintage shop that I had luck in before so I was hopeful that I would find something again. I did! This cute little summer dress only cost me $5!

It happened to be on a rack outside that I checked before I went in. The zipper needed to be sewn back on and was unwearable as is. Thanks to my sewing skills, it was brought back to life! I'm not really used to wearing dresses with a drop waist, but this one has built in shorts so its really comfortable for work.

Since yesterday was thrift store Thursday, I got some good finds there as well. A pair of awesome vintage brown cateye glasses with rhinestones for only $1.50! I really like them so I'm going to try my best to get my prescription lenses in them. I also found a pretty silver necklace with a letter 'T' on it.
There will also be a couple more things added to the shop in the near future!
