I love a challenge!

Knowing that I like to sew, a coworker of mine gave me a project. She found a cute pair of Lilly Pulitzer capris at a thrift store but they were a size 0 and she still wanted to somehow use them because of the awesome print. She bought a matching green top and asked me to make a summer bag out the fabric. Take a look at the results!

Hole at the 9:30 Club

Sunday was the Hole show at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC. Possibly the oddest show I have ever been to but I guess when Courtney Love is involved, you shouldn't expect any less.

Courtney showed up over an hour late. She looked awesome and I was so excited just to be in the same space as her. She rambled on a lot about random things like her Behind the Music on VH1 and people shes slept with. Very entertaining to say the least. Since her band is pretty much a new lineup, they didn't always know older songs and even she was forgetting some lyrics and would ask the audience for help. At one point she let a bunch of people from the front sit on stage for the rest of the show. She forgot her bra for the encore and asked girls if she could borrow theirs. Her assistant, Lisa, stood by her most of the night recording the show on her iPhone. It was kind of annoying to have some random girl in my photos and videos and I'm sure the rest of the audience didn't like her being in the way. Courtney may be crazy but when she played she was awesome and it was a night I'm sure I will never forget.

Pile of Craft is no pile of crap...

Pile of Craft was as delightful as every other year I attended, except this year I think it was even hotter! 90 some degrees outside and in an unairconditioned church makes me sweaty and irritable so we kept our visit to a minimum. I got what I wanted (a few things from Giant Dwarf, thanks Sue!) and we took advantage of the free photobooth.

My husband is a real trooper and goes to this craft show with me every year (this time he happens to have a broken arm) so we make it a point to eat at the PaperMoon Diner for lunch (my treat!). I love their crispy chicken wrap and sweet potato fries. So delicious!

Later today we will begin our search for a new car. Mine is on its last leg and it would cost too much to fix it. Besides that, I need to rest up for tomorrow. I get to go to DC and see this lady...

Lilly Pulitzer loves Nook!

I can't believe I'm actually posting this on here but I am kind of excited about it so here it goes. I work for Barnes & Noble. We have our own ereader out called Nook. It is now available in 2 forms: 1 with 3G and Wifi for $199 and 1 with just Wifi for $149. I've been thinking about getting the cheaper one for obvious reasons and also because of the awesome new covers and accessories that are coming out for Nook.

Jonathon Adler, Lilly Pulitzer, and Kate Spade (just to drop a few big names in the design world) have teamed up with Barnes & Noble to create fun, unique accessories for Nook. If you are like me, maybe seeing these colorful accessories for Nook will make you want to buy one even more.

Etsy Lovin'

Its no secret that I love Etsy. Without Etsy I wouldn't be able to have my own shop or see some of the most talented people's work from around the world (or their awesome vintage finds for me to buy and wear).

That being said, here are some of my favorite Etsy sellers. All of them are in the indie craft show circuit and I get really excited when I can see their work in person!

Girls Can Tell  makes "awesome housewares for geeks and everyone else". I was gifted a set of tea towels with a cute sewing machine diagram design on them and fell in love. There are tons of diagram designs from anything like robots to kitchen appliances. Like I said, I have the tea towels but there are coasters, totebags, and much more!

Giant Dwarf  makes eco-friendly felt headpieces and if you're lucky you can spot a few lovely bags. The Rosette Fascinator is gorgeous and was actually featured in Anthropologie catalogs! You can the them attached to a headband or elastic, whichever you prefer!

Tiger Lilly is part of the Baltimore Etsy Street Team and I come across them at all the local craft shows being that I am right here in Baltimore. You will find beautiful cooper jewelery made with pieces found in nature such as acorns and cute vinyl button rings. I have a few of button rings myself!

Please visit these sellers on Etsy and if you are lucky enough to see them at a craft show, say hello and buy some of their work!

The Gayest Day Ever!

It literally was the gayest day ever and I mean that in the best way possible. Today was the 35th anniversary of Baltimore Pride and me and my gays friends went to the festival in the lovely Druid Hill Park. There were other events that took place yesterday like the parade and the high heel race. Being that its been in the 90s here, I figured I could only handle one day of festivities.

It was actually really fun and entertaining. We saw some drag queens perform and burlesque dancers. If you are familiar with Ru Paul's Drag Race, the host of the event was Pandora Boxx. I didn't talk to her or anything but she looked pretty good in person and was dressed really cute.

It was definitely a new experience but it was a lot of fun for all of us. Plus my pina colada smoothie was way worth it.

Clip on Earrings...for your Shoes!!

This has been a very crazy weekend to say the least. Mark is on a softball team and usually comes home with a new injury every week. This week happened to be the worst one yet...a broken hand. The same night I locked my keys in my car overnight. Of course we couldn't locate the spare key because it was also in the car. (Don't ask.) So I've pretty much been lounging around the house with him, taking naps together, watching tv, cleaning the house, and making cookies. It was nice to relax these last couple days after the night we had.

While at the thrift store the other day, I noticed a pair of shoe clips. They were cute black bows and I contemplated buying them but left without them. While browsing Modcloth, I noticed that the shoe clip trend must be coming back because they had quite a few. Here are some of my favorites:

Honfest 2010

Honfest is one of my favorite Baltimore events of the year. Its probably the one time were I fit in amongst all the girls dressed in their 1960s best with beehived hairdos. The weather was hot and sticky (about 90 degrees) but I lathered on the sunscreen and ended up buying a parasol while I was there. I also bought some cute vintage things and met up with some friends. We didn't stay to see the Best Hon Contest but there were lots of awesome costumes and everyone had a blast.

What I wore:
Vintage 1960s Dress & Belt
John Waters Necklace
Plastic Cateye Sunglasses from Honfest last year

Magnolia Bakery Cupcakes

I know, another post about cupcakes. I tried a new recipe last night from the Complete Magnolia Bakery Cookbook. I went with the vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting. I was lucky enough to try one from the actual bakery over a year ago when my friends took me on a Sex and the City bus tour in New York. It was honestly one of the best cupcakes I have ever had and the recipe was very accurate to what I remember tasting. They are coming with me today to a graduation party!

New Tattoo?

I've been toying with the idea of a new tattoo for years now. I always come back to the cupcake idea. Other than a flamingo, I can't really think of anything more appropriate. I have an obsession with these cute little baked goods and I think I'm ready to make it a permanent one. I'm trying to make it a birthday present so we will see if it works. What I know for sure is that it will need to have a retro vibe, aqua frosting, a cute bow, possibly a cherry, and hopefully a little flamingo topper like the ones on my wedding cupcakes pictured on the left. I've been researching online to find some examples of what I would like it to look like. Heres what I found:

My favorites being the first and third ones for obvious reasons but they are all pretty cute. I also came across a bakery in NJ, Sweet Avenue Bakeshop, that gives out free cupcakes to customers with a cupcake tattoo. Even more reason to get one? I think so.
